Theme for 2020: Money Power in Politics

One cannot deny the presence of exorbitant amounts of money in politics in India and its ability to influence outcomes. There are several determinants for expenditure in the Indian political landscape - some are legitimate and necessary for political activity in a democratic society. Whereas, some are imposed on political parties due to their failure on the governance front and some are totally needless costs incurred through traditional, archaic modes of public mobilisation. Apart from that, a major part of it is for illegitimately buying votes.

At the first edition of the conference, our objective is to provide a platform for a constructive conversation between all relevant stakeholders on the role of money in politics. It seeks to address the widespread concern about the pervasive presence of money power in party politics and its impact on democracy.
